Pensioner awarded £22,000 after accident on holiday

Pensioner Awarded £22k After Accident on Holiday | Middletons Solicitors | Andover Solicitors

A 74-year-old woman has been awarded £22,000 compensation after a metal ramp collapsed underneath her while she was on holiday.

She had a share in a ground floor timeshare apartment – she needed to be on the ground floor because she was partially wheelchair dependent. However, when she arrived she was told that the ground floor apartment wasn’t ready so she reluctantly agreed to stay in another apartment which involved having to go up several steps.

The timeshare company fitted a metal ramp so she could get to the door. The ramp was made up of three parts and when the woman walked up the ramp it collapsed underneath her and she fell.

She fractured her right ankle which led to her developing deep vein thrombosis because of her lack of mobility due to the accident. This led to a pulmonary embolism.

Before the accident, she had been a regular customer of the timeshare company and they knew she was unable to manage steps.

She claimed the company had been negligent in failing to provide safe access to the apartment.

The company admitted liability and agreed to an out-of-court settlement of £22,000 for her pain, suffering and loss of amenity, as well as the holiday which had been ruined.
